Hey hey hey. I'm a new England transplant myself, but I've been here for 11 years so Texas-speak is now part of me. When I first moved here I thought it was soooo funny that when you ordered a coke, they'd ask you what kind. (um, a cola). And the expression, "ya might could..." still tweaks my ear. I have to say though, I believe I use the expression "fixin' to" as a normal part of speech in proper southern company. Too funny. Good luck in ATX!
I am not mocking or hating on you, Tejas! I'm just posting about things that are different, surprising, confusing, amusing, or hilarious to me as a New Englander... or, as y'all prefer to call me, a Yankee.
PS: No seriously. I can't mock you because the word "y'all" is unconsciously in my thoughts... and now in my speech as well. Yes, it has happened: I say "y'all" on a regular basis.
